IB MYP English Teacher (August 2021)


For August 2021, we are looking for a dynamic and experienced IB MYP English teacher. The appointee will form part of the English department, which prepares students to be able to complete the IB Diploma Programme Language A course. The appointee will be asked to teach the MYP English course in years 6-10. Normally, a teacher will have five classes in two or three different year groups. If the appointee has experience teaching the Diploma Programme, s/he may also be given a IBDP year 1 class.

MYP Coordinator - Upper School


Post overview

Lead the effective implementation of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in accordance with Newton College’s educational philosophy and International Baccalaureate expectations. Ensure the MYP provides a well-articulated bridge between the PYP and the Diploma Programme curricula, with regard to teaching, learning and assessment. An important feature of this role is the interaction and communication with teaching staff in relation to MYP classroom practice, curriculum content and design, documentation, assessment and reporting.


Major responsibilities

  • Oversee the articulation and organisation of the MYP, and in particular use Managebac as a tool to do this.
  • Oversee and develop consistent teaching practice amongst the MYP teaching body.
  • Oversee the development of the MYP action plan.
  • Guarantee compliance with IB deadlines and expectations, including processes related to all MYP internal and external evaluation.
  • Design and implement engagement opportunities for parents to learn about key aspects of the MYP programme.
  • In conjunction with the Personal Project Coordinator oversee the implementation of the MYP Personal Project.
  • In conjunction with the Service and Action Coordinator oversee the integration of this area into the curriculum and compliance with all IB expectations.

Tasks

  • Develop the MYP action plan
  • Lead Upper staff training sessions related to MYP development areas (curriculum, assessment, etc.)
  • As and when required, participate in the Upper SLT weekly meetings and Upper school development.
  • Coordinate and overview the day-to-day work of the Personal Project Coordinator and the Action and Service Coordinator.
  • Develop and Monitor internal and external MYP deadlines and communicate these to staff.
  • Run MYP focused parent workshops.
  • Coordinate with the IB related to all MYP matters, concerns and the programme in general.

Post Profile

  • Training: Familiarity with the PYP, MYP and DP, ideally having completed formal IB training in more than one of the programmes mentioned.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with IB philosophy, particularly as expressed in the MYP.
  • Knowledge of best practices in instruction, written curriculum and people management.
  • Experience: Experience as an MYP teacher is essential and some experience of leading MYP curriculum development would be strongly preferred.

Application Developer


Requirements

  • Technical studies in programming, computing or related careers.
  • Experience in application development for iOS and Android with database interfaces.
  • Proficiency in English at an intermediate level (desirable).
  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, UX and Design Thinking.
  • Management of SQL language and database.
  • Knowledge of programming using Java, ASP and/or Visual Studio (preferable).

Responsibilities

  • Development of computer systems applications and components.
  • Documentation of developed programmes and user support.
  • Other functions assigned by the immediate line manager.
