The IB provides a rigorous, holistic and modern curriculum in more than 5,000 schools in over 150 countries every year. We teach its three major programmes, providing full cohesion and coherence to our curriculum.
Primary Years Programme for 3 to 11 year-old pupils
Middle Years Programme for 11 to 16 year-old pupils
Diploma Programme for 16 to 18 year-old pupils
We systematically develop not only hard skills but also soft skills. We focus on emotional as well as cognitive development, on personal as well as social growth. We consistently develop the IB Approaches to Learning Approaches to Learning skills in pupils from the age of 3 to 18.
Newton College’s values promote caring and collaborative relationships throughout the school community. Our ethical guides for students, parents and staff align our understanding of the values and reinforce their universal importance.
All our staff complete the official IB training courses in the programme they teach. They also receive support from our pedagogical coaches to continuously improve their classroom practice. This all results in students engaged in their learning who develop lifelong learning skills. In the evaluations of our programmes carried out by the IB in 2019, we received the following commendations:
• The school fosters and has developed a stimulating learning environment based on understanding and respect.
• The written curriculum allows for meaningful student action in response to students’ own needs and the needs of others.
• The students convey a strong enthusiasm for their IB learning.
• Teaching and learning engages students as inquirers and thinkers.
• Teaching and learning supports students to become actively responsible for their own learning.
We have a large, beautiful campus with our own lake in La Molina, a quiet suburb in the city of Lima. We have excellent sports facilities including a modern sports centre, two swimming pools, football fields and outdoor courts. We have separate and well-equipped buildings for Lower School, Upper School, Science, and Design. Our nursery, Early Years, has its own building with brand new and modern infrastructure, independent from the rest of the school, with spacious classrooms, green playgrounds and specialist rooms for drama and music. Our campus lends itself to reflection, creativity, and physical activity.
We have a unique study centre in the Tambopata National Reserve, in the Amazon jungle of Madre de Dios. It is in primeval rainforest and in one of the world's biodiversity hotspots, where you will see spectacular vegetation and a large variety of wildlife, including butterflies, birds, monkeys, insects, boars, caiman and snakes. Our centre can accommodate up to 100 people and is visited by students from different schools in Peru and other countries. Our own students go there in the second year of the MYP and the second year of the DP.
We were accredited as the first IB school in Peru and in 1987 started teaching the Diploma Programme (DP), which is a rigorous, two-year course of study that prepares students for life. Our DP graduates constantly achieve above-world average results and enter the most prestigious universities in Peru and around the globe (e.g. Oxford, Harvard, Stanford, McGill, Toronto, New York University Abu Dhabi).
