This
section is intended to inform pupils and parents of the aims, systems
and expectations of the Upper School of Newton College. This level
comprises Forms I to VI. It caters for pupils aged 11-18 who develop
from children to adolescents to young adults. It is a transitional
stage which is marked by important developmental characteristics
(intellectual, physical, emotional and social changes).
The
Upper School guides and supports the pupils throughout this period
of continuous change. In so doing it aims to fulfil the school´s
mission:
"In
addition to high academic standards and intellectual rigour, the
school promotes the development of the individual potential and
talents of each pupil. Emphasis is placed on the educational experience
of the pupil and its relationship to responsible citizenship and
the concept of community, both within the school as well as in the
national and international realities which exist outside of the
classroom. Respect for intellect, culture and diversity through
the formation of critical thinkers and lifelong learners and enhancing
moral and ethical values are key qualities in the school´s
educational philosophy"
Pupils
and parents are asked to reflect on the guidelines expressed in
this information and to understand and respect the rationale for
the rules and regulations that apply in Upper School. For clarification
of any of the points herein please consult your
child's tutor.
