One of the aims of Sachavacayoc Centre is to stimulate research, especially by students and recently graduated biologists. We do this by providing free food, accommodation and transport from Puerto Maldonado to the centre. Researchers have no guiding duties. Nevertheless, you are very welcome to explain to visitors and students about your work or maybe even organise a workshop for visiting students.

REQUEST

Your request for a stay at the Sachavacayoc Centre should, briefly, include:
Curriculum Vitae: name, university training, research experience, publications, articles, reports.
And:
Intended project: outline of the work, methods and materials, time schedule, references, letters of recommendation, literature references.

Please bring all the equipment you need. Don't expect anything to be there, unless we have confirmed it to you. We would appreciate any donations in the form of left-over equipment when you leave.

There will not be many duties, apart from those which common sense will dictate. The duties that you will find are activities, like updating the log books, i.e. on mammal sightings, treefalls, natural history.

Once a month and before leaving the centre you should write a short report. Within three months after leaving we would like to receive your final report.

PARTICIPATING IN ONGOING RESEARCH

If you are interested in cooperating in some ongoing research, please contact us. Some basic systematic studies have been done on biodiversity of mammals, amphibians and insects. Bird-studies could be done at the blue-and-yellow macaws colony or the hundreds of other bird species in the area.

A giant otter survey in the Tambopata region is on its way. Volunteers could contact us.

GENERAL RAINFOREST EXPERIENCE

Students who are interested in a "general rainforest experience" could also contact us. Together we will be able to compose a programme, for instance with trail marking/clearing, assisting school groups, preparing field experiments for students.

PAYING RESEARCHER

Staying free of charge, it is hoped, will stimulate the research of a limited number of young biologists without funding, especially Peruvians. If you do not belong to this category, you are still welcome in our centre, but we will charge you the cost of food and accommodation.
