Newton College is a member of LAHC, an association of 38 of the most prestigious schools in Latin America, situated in Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. It has an Executive Committee of 5 Head Teachers of schools in different regions and our Headmaster, Andrew Cino, in May was appointed Chair of LAHC.
Each year LAHC holds an annual conference and the principal theme this year was "Education for/through Sustainable De-velopment" (ESD). This year the main speakers were Mr. Tom Jolly, who works in Peru and England as a consultant for schools on ESD, and Newton College's David Bruggers.
For this year's conference an orchestra was formed comprising over 80 students from different LAHC schools. Our student, Daniel Salinas (Form V), was the leading violinist, and María Lucía Sánchez (Form III) a leading clarinetist. Both students excelled in all performances and the orchestra director personally congratulated our Headmaster on both Daniel's and María Lucía's musical expertise. They were excellent ambassadors for Newton College.

In the July holidays, 10 Newton students travelled to England on a cultural trip organized by the Independent Schools Cultural Alliance (ISCA). Students aged 11-14 are received in the huge, beautiful campus of Charterhouse School, one of the most prestigious private schools in England. Days are organized into “on and out of” campus activities, in which all the students take part. On this occasion there were almost 100 students from different parts of USA and Newton College.
The students visited a great variety of historical places, such as: The Roman Baths, Stonehenge, Winchester Cathedral, Portsmouth, Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, Stratford-on-Avon, Oxford University, Windsor Castle and in London: St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the London Museum, the British Museum, Hampton Palace, the Globe Theatre and many other interesting sites. They made new friendships, became more independent and practised and improved their English.
