At Newton in Form's III and IV all students follow the Cambridge IGCSE's. This is the world's most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds, leading to globally recognised and valued IGCSE qualifications.
Students will follow up to 10 of these courses, which provide excellent preparation for the IB Diploma in Forms V and VI as well as other routes into University and beyond. It incorporates the best in international education for learners at this level. It develops in line with changing needs, and is regularly updated and extended. Our IGCSE teachers can draw on excellent resources, training and advice from subject experts and the school results are above International world averages.
IGCSEs encourage learner-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning. It develops learners' skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, giving learners excellent preparation for the next stage in their education. Newton has a core curriculum of IGCSE English Language and Literature, Spanish Literature, Maths and Coordinated Science. IGCSE Options provide an extension to learning to suit our learners needs and introduce cross-curricular perspectives in subjects like IGCSE Economics, Geography, History, ICT, Art, French, PE, Twenty First Century Science and Music and Theatre.
Clearly defined learning outcomes and content, mean that the IGCSEs are internationally relevant and sensitive to different needs and cultures and our Newton context. Students can choose a combination of different subjects which gives a variety of routes for learners of different abilities. Each subject is certificated separately.
